The economy of Grand Prairie, one of the chief cities in Alberta, is regarded by many as one which is increasingly growing, making it a perfect place to reside in and find a job. But what sets its economy apart from other cities in Alberta?
In general, the Grand Prairie economy is believed to be one of the most diverse in the province of Alberta. This is due to the fact that its economy is supported by its major industries which consist of agriculture, oil and gas, forestry, technology, and services. The first mainstay of the Grand Prairie economy is agriculture, and today it is still a major local industry in the city. Second, the oil and gas industries in Grand Prairie also play a key role in the economy of the city. With the discovery of gas fields in the 1970's, Grand Prairie has become a major source of the said product.

Numerous lumber yards and sawmills are located within the area of Grand Prairie, providing a variety of jobs for both locals and immigrants. Furthermore, this city serves as an economic and transportation center for a trading area wherein more than 200,000 individuals engage in various kinds of business daily. This brought about a huge demand for job opportunities connected to transportation, as well as human resource and service-related work.
